RoadFree COP 19 side event: Get REDD+ Right by Keeping Forests Free of Roads

November 19 2013

This COP 19 side event, Roadfree areas, Keep Forests Free of Roads, Get REDD+ Right is co-organised by the RoadFree initiative and the European Commission DG-CLIMA.

The event aims at putting the protection of roadfree areas at the forefront of international efforts to halt deforestation. The presentations will focus on recent findings related to roadbuilding impacts on deforestation and forest degradation. These findings can contribute to the successful implementation of the UN programme to Reduce Emission from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD+). REDD+ funding should be directed as a priority to the protection of road free forests as the absence of roads can be an early success indicator of REDD+ activities.
